St.
Peter's School offers many student support services.
Food
Hot lunch is provided everyday or students
may opt to bring lunches. St. Peter's participates in Federal Milk
Program.
Health
Screening for vision, hearing and scoliosis is offered to students.
Health instruction for nutrition and welfare are incorporated in
the physical education program. The majority of faculty and staff
are certified in Red Cross First Aid and CPR.
Guidance
A certified Guidance Counselor
works full-time at the school. The counselor teaches each class
about such things as life skills and problem-solving techniques
during a class session. In addition, the counselor is available
for teacher and student referrals as well as parent conferences.
Library
Every class has a weekly library class where such topics as geography,
card catalogues and different categories of literature are taught.
Students may check out books on a weekly basis. Students in grade
eight learn how to do a research paper. Numerous audio-visual aides
are available for teachers.
Inclusion
St. Peter's School is privileged to have a full-time inclusion specialist
who assists students with academic challenges. Support is provided
for teachers to effectively meet the needs of every student in the
classroom. Classroom aides assist in the delivery of instructional
services.
Students who need diagnostic, psychological
or speech evaluation may be referred to the public school system
to establish an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Title I services
are provided for eligible students. Conferences are conducted involving
parents, teachers and administrators to develop an individualized
curriculum plan (504) to meet special needs of students.
Transportation
Bus transportation is provided and funded by Charles County Public
Schools to students who reside in the appropriate zones. Parents
are responsible for transporting those students who live outside
the school zone. Carpool lists are available.
Before and After School Program
The before and after school program is licensed by the Maryland
State Child Care Administration. This service is available to St.
Peter's students in grades K through 8. The Program is open every
day that school is in session and operates from 6:30AM until school
begins in the morning, and from 3:40PM until 6:30PM in the evening.
Rates vary according to the number of siblings attending and pick-up
times.
