What
is the grocery/gift certificate requirement for?
Purchasing certificates offers additional revenue for St. Peter's
School. For every certificate you purchase, a percentage is given
back to the school. A complete list of details on the stores, restaurants,
and gas stations will be sent home with your child.
What is the Volunteer Service
Hour Program?
The volunteer service program includes various volunteer options
to help the school during the school day, or in Certificates Sale
and Bingo Sales to generate money for the school. The different
areas are listed on the school registration form. The finance committee
can be contacted for questions concerning this program.
What is the agreement for Parish
subsidized tuition?
Catholics in good standing with the Church and registered members
of St. Peter's or Our Lady Help of Christians parish; Contribute
generously each week to their parish; Establish a record of weekly
attendance at Sunday Mass by placing their contribution envelope
in the collection basket each Sunday.
Do the children get school pictures
taken during the school year?
Yes. A flyer will be sent home during the fall. Individual pictures
of the students are taken in the fall. Class pictures are taken
in the spring. School uniforms are required for pictures.
Are uniforms required every day?
Yes. Uniforms are worn everyday. The dress code is listed in the
student handbook. There are exceptions on TAG days. The student
can wear their regular clothes on their birthday. If it falls on
a weekend, they can come to school out of uniform on the previous
Friday, or following Monday. If your child's birthday occurs during
the summer, an "unbirthday" is declared with the approval
of the child's teacher.
What is a TAG day?
TAG days are announced 3-4 times during the school year. Students
will be allowed to come to school out of uniform. Usually, there
is a theme, requesting particular colors. There is often a $1 -
2 fee used for various charities.
Is there bus service to St. Peter's?
Yes. Not everyone rides the bus. There will be a bus route included
in your school information packet. You must be within the approved
school zone area in order to be eligible to ride the bus.
What time are the children dismissed?
Dismissal is at 3:40 p.m.
If my child is a car rider, what
is the pick-up procedure?
As you approach the school cars line up in the Church parking lot
on the right if you are facing the Church. Columns of 5 cars will
form, with the cars facing toward the direction of the school. You
should never avoid driving around the middle island by turning left
from the main entrance. Details of the traffic policy can be found
in the student handbook. Remember that the morning and afternoon
pick-up is a busy time, student safety is the first priority!
Will I receive some more information
before the start of school?
Yes. You will be notified to come pick up a student information
packet before school starts.
How do I know what school supplies
to purchase for my child?
Supply lists were sent home in report cards or mailed to new families.
Does St. Peter's offer daycare?
Yes. Before and After care is provided. Please call the school for
details.
Is there a school cafeteria?
Yes. In addition, there is hot lunch program. A lunch menu/order
form is sent home each month for the following month, so that selections
are made in advance.
What are some of the school clubs
and activities?
Band is offered for 4 - 8th grade, Destination Imagination, Art
club, Computer club, Math club, and Japanese club are some of the
activities that are offered.
What does HSA stand for?
Home School Association. This is a committee that supports the school
and teachers in a variety of ways, ranging from physical to financial
needs. It is a method of improving the learning environment of our
children. Parent support is needed for HSA to succeed.
Where can I obtain used uniforms?
Call the school to find out how used uniforms can be obtained.
What is the dress code?
It is detailed in the Student-Parent Handbook you will be notified
to pick up prior to the first day of school. You may also contact
the school office for dress code questions.
I have a lot of questions. Is
there a family I can call up for some support on orienting me to
St. Peter's?
Yes. Some families volunteer to answer questions for you and guide
you along. Contact the school for this information.
How do we know when school is
out due to inclement weather?
St. Peter's follows the Charles County School system schedule. If
they announce a delay or cancellation, then St. Peter's will have
the same cancellation. It is important that you keep your contact
information current, in the event that the school needs to contact
you.
What are the summer hours of the
school?
Monday thru Friday, 9:00am - 2:00 pm. No regular hours during the
month of July.
I am new to the school and don't
understand what the shoe looks like, is there a sample to look at?
Yes. Visit the school office during office hours to view the shoe
sample.
Can I find useful school information
in the Church bulletin?
Yes. There is a school news section in the Church bulletin, which
highlights the coming week's school events.
There seems to be a lot of information
out on the web, how do people that don't have web access get their
information?
The web is an additional form of information. Important information
that parents need to know is always sent home. The web is a secondary
information source.
How do I get information that
is sent home?
All school mail is sent home with the youngest child in the family.
Always make it a point to check their book bag for any information
that is sent home. Generally, mail is not sent home on Fridays,
except in rare cases.
How do I sign up to volunteer
for different activities and committees?
The H.S.A meeting that is held at the beginning of the year has
sign up lists for the different committees. H. S. A. and the School
Advisory Board are filled by elections. There is a public announcement
made towards the end of the school year to announce the various
openings. Often you need to find out whom the point of contact is
for the committee that you are interested in and make the proper
contacts.
