Spirituality
Uniqueness
Belonging
Emotional Development
Physical Development

The Spiritual Child
We teach children to live a life infused with the message and practice of Christ and his Church. We maintain an atmosphere in which students can discover their God-given talents, and bear witness to their faith in word and action.

In pursuit of this goal, we:

  • create an environment for spiritual, moral and religious growth;
  • model Christian living in behavior and relationships;
  • provide a sequential program of religious instruction in the Catholic faith;
  • encourage participation in the school, Church, local and world communities;
  • weave the principles of faith into the entire curriculum;
  • enable students to plan Masses and other celebrations;
  • teach respect for the value of all people;
  • generate awareness of God's presence through prayer, Scripture, sacrament and liturgy;
  • provide opportunities for Christian service;
  • maintain a faculty and staff committed to living and sharing their faith.

The Unique Child

We provide a flexible approach to learning, sensitive to the unique needs and learning styles of the individual, helping each to achieve his or her maximum potential.

The Intellectual Child

We meet the goal of academic excellence by asking the best of each student through: an organized and integrated curriculum;
an atmosphere of free inquiry, discovery, and creativity;
special learning opportunities for all;
progress from concrete to abstract levels of learning and thought;
development of good study habits and skills.

Each curriculum area reflects our high standards, our commitment to the whole child with his or her unique needs and gifts, and our devotion to Catholic faith and Christian living. Our curriculum includes programs in Religion, Language Arts, Reading, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Computer Education, Music, and Art.
St. Peter's provides a special program for students with Learning Disabilities. Please call for more information.

The Whole Child

We at St. Peter's Catholic School call forth the special gifts inherent in every child. We guide students on a journey to explore and develop their spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, and physical dimensions.

The Belonging Child

We seek to grow as a community enlivened, animated and motivated by the gospel spirit of love and freedom.

Ours is a happy, productive community of people who share values, ideas, and a commitment to excellence. Visitors to our school often comment on the spirit of Christian concern and respect evidenced in the school community.

We welcome students of all faiths into our community at St. Peter's.

St. Peter's students perform well on standardized tests, and graduates often enter honors programs in high school.

The Emotional/Social Child

To nurture the social and emotional growth of students, and empower them to play an active role in the Church and community, we: respect freedom of thought, action and expression;

  • teach acceptable ways of expressing emotion;
  • promote discovery of individual strengths, weaknesses, feelings and abilities;
  • incorporate health and safety into the curriculum;
  • utilize the services of a school counselor to address emotional and behavioral issues;
  • sponsor programs for parents facing difficulties in the family;
  • present special programs on safety and substance abuse by local police and fire officials (e.g. DARE Program);
  • teach the love of God, self, and neighbor;
  • foster sensitivity to the uniqueness of each individual;
  • encourage active concern for the well being of others.

The Physical Child

We seek to instill respect for the life and health of the human body, and the recognition that God created everyone differently. We help students to accept these differences in themselves and others.

We enable students to understand the consequences of abusing the body through the misuse of drugs, alcohol and tobacco, or through physical or emotional abuse.

We provide opportunities for students to compete in activities such as soccer, volleyball, track, and softball. We foster an awareness that good sportsmanship can be applied to daily living. Our students enjoy ample areas for play, with safe recreational equipment.

St. Peter's, a Catholic elementary school for students in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade, enjoys a proud history of excellence and service to St. Peter's and Our Lady Help of Christians Parishes, and to the Waldorf community and its environs. A beautiful tree lined drive opens onto the spacious grounds of St. Peter's School and Parish in historic Southern Maryland. This pastoral setting is home to children seeking a place of learning, faith and growth.

Our school is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
