There are no pledge cards to fill out. The commitment is made in pray between the giver and God. Please read the remarks made other parishioners regarding tithing. Tom O'Connell Hello! My name is Tom O'Connell and I am a member of St. Madeline's parish located in Ridley Park, Pa. I 1ave strong feelings for my parish since my four children were educated in St. Madelines school and were married there. I first became interested in tithing about seven years ago when it was introduced in St. Madeline's. Up until then I was aware of tithing but never thought to inquire about how it works. So when the material was distributed. I read it carefully and asked myself how tithing would help me, the giver, and help my parish. After careful consideration, I concluded that it would be a good way for me to insure that I would be contributing my fair share to my parish, so I adopted it as my own personal plan. ONLY YOU CAN DECIDE . . . Tithing is a way to help you determine how much support you can offer your parish. Since no one else knows your personal situation, the way you do no one can decide for you what you should do. Tithing is a great aid to the pastor because it provides the necessary support so badly needed to meet the everyday needs and responsibilities of the parish. And, for me, I get a great feeling of satisfaction and personal contentment to know that I am contributing a fair share to the support of my parish. Thank you. Mary Ward Good evening! I am Mary Ward and I'm a member of St. Madeline's parish located in Ridley Park, Pa. I have been asked to share a few thoughts about tithing. I was first introduced to tithing by a member of a Mission Church in a small town in Colorado. The parishioners of that church had been advised that they would no longer be supported by the diocese. They would have to close. These people loved their little church and were determined not to allow that to happen . . . and that is when tithing came into the picture. WISDOM FROM A 14 YEAR OLD. When the idea of tithing was first introduced at St. Madelines of course I couldn't help but remember that story. I also recalled the words of a 14-year-old Jewish girl who was put to death by the Nazis. She said. "NO ONE HAS EVER BECOME POOR BY GIVING." So, after considerable thought, I decided the only thing I could do was to try. I would try to contribute a little more money, and just maybe, a little more time. Did I make the right decision? You bet I did! Like you, I have bills to pay, and I realize the costs and problems of raising a family, the hardships of unexpected expenses, the loss of a job and extended illness. I have experienced great joys and almost unbearable heartaches, but through it all I have received tremendous rewards and blessings - the love and support of my parish family. And nothing can surpass that! And so, as you consider tithing, I urge you to remember that NO ONE HAS EVER BECOME POOR BY GIVING! |
